Half steps and whole steps!

This is a new lesson. Today I will explain what a whole step and a half step is. This knowledge is required if you want to understand how scales are derived in music.

A whole step is when you keep your finger on the first fret and you skip one fret and go to the third fret. This is calling taking a whole step.

A half step is when you keep your first finger on your first fret and second finger on the second fret. This is called a half step. This also applies if your first finger is on fifth fret of any string and second finger is on sixth fret of that string.

No matter which string or fret you’re on, if you go from one fret to the next fret, it’s called half steps.

No matter which string or fret you’re on, if you go from one fret to another fret and by jumping a fret, you have done is a whole step.

That’s all for now. I’ll be posting some more lessons soon. Rock on.
